How to Choose a Color for your Decal

Below are some guides to help you properly decide on what type of decal you need to purchase.  It will also help those who are not familiar with how die-cut decals work.

Basic Single Color Decals   This does not apply to full color (printed) decals.

See Color Chart A for colors available for this style of decal.

Decals shown installed on different colored surfaces  These surface colors are NOT part of the decal.

Same Decal On Different Surfaces How to do this for your decal

In this row the color choice is Black.  The decal consists of ONLY the black part in the image.  The different colored backgrounds are NOT part of the decal. Notice that the background shows through the white parts of the design.

This does not apply to full color (printed) decals.

In this row the color choice is Green.  The decal consists of ONLY the green part in the image.  The different colored backgrounds are NOT part of the decal. Notice that the background shows through the white parts of the design.

This does not apply to full color (printed) decals.

How to choose a color for your decal

If you are unfamiliar with how a die-cut/transfer decal without a background works or is installed you may want to see the installation page for a visual for better understanding.

Choosing a 2nd Color (Optional) This does not apply to full color (printed) decals.

See Color Chart A for colors available for this style of decal.

2 Color Decal Option

More information at Outlines and Shadows page to make sure you choose the proper 2 COLOR option.  Once you have decided on the option you want you will need to pick the 2 colors you want.

In the image on the above, the first color chosen was red (STEP 2).
Then you choose the type of 2 color option you want (Shadow, Contour, etc.)
Finally you pick the color you want for that option.  In the image to the left Black was the second color chosen (STEP 5).
Choosing a second color for your decal

Full Clor Pattern Print Decal This does not apply to those that are already full color (printed) decals.

See Color Chart B for colors available for this style of decal.

Please read THOROUGHLY BEFORE you order a Full Color Pattern Fill decal.

There are literally millions of color/pattern combinations you can make for each decal.  Following the directions below will make this as trouble fee as possible. When you order a printed decal the process is different than ordering a single color (or two color) die-cut decal.

    • Go to the order form that shows the DESIGN you want (NOT the pattern).  This will probably be a black and white image.
    • The first thing you do will be to pick the size.  This is the width measured left to right as shown in the image.
    • Next you will need to choose the type of vinyl you want the decal to be printed on.  The choices are at the BOTTOM of the color list in the second pull-down menu.  You MUST choose CUSTOM FILL as your color choice if you want a printed pattern decal.  Be sure to understand what type of vinyl you need by going to the printed vinyl material page.  There is important information on that page so choose wisely (example: clear has VERY limited color options for ink).
    • You may choose to the Reverse/Flip the design if desired.  Do NOT choose this option if the design has lettering within it as this is not available for this style of decal.
    • You will need to skip the "Second Color Options" (steps 4 and 5 on the product page).  Skip these even if you do want an outline.  Choosing these options will just add cost to your decal that is not required.  So just leave both steps 4 and 5 "normal as shown".
    • This is the MOST IMPORTANT step in ordering a full color design.  In the comments box state clearly how you want the decal to look.  You will need to first go to the printed decal colors page and pick out the pattern and/or color(s) you want used.  Simply state the COMPLETE pattern/color name in the comments box.  If an outline is desired then note that too and the color you want the outline.  Several examples are listed below to show how you comments should be worded.

Be sure to check your email within 24 hours after you place the order in case any questions do arise.

Before and After Fill is added What to was put in the comments box to describe the change.
TexasFlag1 Fill.
Punched Red Carbon Fiber Fill with a Black Outline.
Magenta Engine Turn Fill.
Cheetah Skin Fill with a Black Outline.
AmFlag2 Fill - The middle image has a Blue Outline while the last image has a Black Outline.
Traditional Brown Camo Fill - The middle image has a Red Outline while the last image has a Black Outline
Camo Breakup 2 Fill

Note.  The bottom camo image was made by customer request.  This is NOT the Reverse option (repeat this is NOT the reverse option).  It was simply stated that one of the decals was to have the logo on the right side of the lettering.

  • We use the terms "decal" and "sticker" as being equivalent so don't be confused that one product may be better than the other due to the title.

  • Our decals are made from commercial quality vinyl that will last several years in harsh outdoor conditions. See color chart and/or material chart (if a full color print) for outdoor life expectancy for your particular design.

  • They come with adhesive on the back of the decal. Note that we do also offer front adhesive decals.

  • All decals are CUSTOM MADE to your specifications of size and color/material.

  • Each design can be made in any size and are measured LEFT TO RIGHT. (*Except Stick Figure Decals).  You choose the size in STEP 1 when ordering.

  • Our decals can be made in any color found on the color chart if you are chosing a color in Step 2.  If this is a "full color" printed style decal (you are choosing a material, not color, in Step 2) then we may be able to still change the color but it would be a color from one of these color charts.

  • The white rectangle the design is shown on is not part of the decal.  Most decals will not have a background; the majority of our decals are die-cut around the shape of the design unless otherwise noted or show. *Some "full color" decals will have white within the design. See the product information and the diagrams below for more information.

  • You may also choose to have a Shadow, Outline or Contour in an additional color for single color transfer decals.

  • Discounts are automatically added if you purchase more than one item.  Items don't have to be the same to qualify for the discount.

  • Please see the FAQ page for answers to questions you may have.

  • Is the design shown above close to what you are wanting but not quite perfect?  Use the "Ask a question" tab (above) to let us know what needs to be done to make it perfect for you. Or you can simply order and note in the comments box the change needed.  We will make the change and email you before we ship if there are any questions.

  • Don't see what you want in our catalog? We specialize in Custom Decals and Custom Stickers so you can send us your idea and we will make it for you.

The image below shows 3 different decal styles.  Use them to help visualize how your decal will look depending on what type of decal you are purchasing.

  1. The first one on the left is your standard die-cut transfer style decal.  The image on the order form shows it in black (upper left hand corner of the image) but yellow was chosen for the color.  As you can see the surface color shows through all the open areas within the design.  See the order form image.
  2. The middle design is similar but is with a Full Color transfer decal.  The design is printed but still has open areas within the eyes and mouth so those are cut out.  You can see what parts will be cut out on a full color decal as there will be a thin gray line any place there is a cut.  See the order form image.
  3. The final one on the right is a full color decal but there are no holes. The white edge wraps around the design giving it a white contour.  Once again, the edge is represented by a thin gray line.  See the order form image.  *Note that we have updated this design on the website where the white part is cut out above the red girl's tail.
  4. If you have any questions please use the "Ask a Question" tab above find out more.
